Statement of Intentions

So conversation in a post over in
psongster's journal made me realize that I'd like to have an easily referenceable place on the web for
psongster's and my Statement of Intentions (think "Vows" with an implicit acknowledgment of both changes that happen in life and the possibility of overwhelming challenges that override a person's will, not matter how strong, to hold to a particular course). This is mostly for my own use, and I suspect I'm biased on how neat I think they are, so I'll put it behind a cut.
We will will each others' well-being, as best we understand it. We will help each other grow, both in our individual ways and as partners. We will comfort and support each other in sorrow and in joy.
We will be open and honest with each other. We will seek to understand each other, to communicate as fully and clearly as we can, and to respect both our similarities and our differences. Our relationship will be a base for our shared quest to understand ourselves and our world with as much subtlety and rigor as we can.
We will encourage play and laughter. We will not always take ourselves or each other seriously, and we will give each of us room for imperfection and for absurdity.
We will value each others' well-being more than the bond of our relationship. If it is ever appropriate for us to go our separate ways, we will make that decision together, for the purpose of enabling both of us to have richer and fuller lives. Should this happen, we will continue to treat each other with love, honesty, and fairness.
We will support each others' connections with other people. Our relationship is intended to expand our capacity for friendship and love, not to limit it.
We will make our relationship a foundation for our work in the world, both together and as individuals. Our relationship is intended to further the good of others as well as our own good.
We will weave our lives together, sharing our resources and our strengths, as we strive to create a whole that is greater than its parts.
We will build a home together -- a place of comfort and hospitality for us and for others, and a foundation for our lives.
But I continue to think that they're pretty cool.
